Nigerian airline operators have attributed a significant proportion of flight delays and cancellations to airport congestion, inadequate infrastructure, and adverse weather conditions, stating that many disruptions are beyond their control. They made this known during the Aviation Day of the 22nd Akwaaba African Travel Market in Lagos. The session followed the release of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority's August 2026 flight report, which indicated that over 60 per cent of flights were cancelled. According to the report, 4,765 out of 7,961 domestic flights were delayed, while 36 flights were cancelled.
