The Nigeria Customs Service seized 56 containers at Onne Port in Rivers State with a total Duty Paid Value exceeding N5.53 billion. The containers held over 1.1 million litres of vegetable oil, assorted used clothing, and tomato paste, but were declared as plants, spare parts, and machineries. Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi stated the seizures followed an intelligence-driven review of cargo destined for Free Trade Zones. He noted a flagrant abuse of incentives and waivers granted to operators in Special Economic Zones and Free Trade Zones.
