Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State is being formally turbaned with the title of Sardauna in Ilorin on Wednesday, 16th September, 2026. The Sardauna title was originally held by Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Premier of Northern Nigeria, and is regarded as one of the most distinguished titles in the country's traditional lexicon. Like the Aare Ona Kakanfo of the ancient Yoruba kingdom, the Sardauna is associated with military authority, leadership, prestige and service. Kwara State is described as uniquely positioned at the intersection of northern and southern Nigeria, with a pluralistic and cosmopolitan outlook.
