A group of lawyers and human rights advocates has called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President to demand the removal of an Anambra State cabinet member identified as a suspect in the 2002 murder of former NBA Onitsha Branch Chairman Barnabas Chidi Igwe and his pregnant wife, Amaka Abigail Igwe. In a letter dated September 11, 2026, they urged the NBA President to press the Inspector-General of Police to reopen the investigation and prosecute those responsible. They also asked Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo to publish the report of the state's Truth, Justice and Peace Commission on the matter. The couple was killed on September 1, 2002, shortly after returning from the NBA's 42nd Annual General Conference.
