Agora Policy, a Nigerian think tank, has warned that Nigeria's 4.4% GDP growth in the second quarter of 2026 is insufficient to significantly reduce poverty or create enough jobs for the growing population. In a policy analysis, the organisation said the growth rate, while the highest since Q2 2021, is too weak to improve living standards, especially with the population expanding by 2-3% annually. Agora Policy called for a shift to manufacturing and agro-processing and expressed doubt that the Tinubu administration's $1 trillion economy target by 2030 can be achieved. The memo was titled "Translating Nigeria's GDP Growth to Improved Living Standards."
