The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested a Mexican drug kingpin, Arturo Carrera Loaiza, allegedly linked to a transnational methamphetamine cartel. Loaiza was arrested on August 19, 2026, while attempting to flee Nigeria through Lagos airport. The NDLEA also dismantled another industrial-scale meth laboratory in Ebonyi State. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) warned that Nigeria would not become a safe haven for transnational drug cartels.
