Ethiopia has achieved World Health Organization verification of its National Emergency Medical Team, becoming the first civilian Emergency Medical Team in the WHO African Region to attain international WHO classification. The milestone follows years of leadership, investment, training and partnership led by Ethiopia's Ministry of Health and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, with technical support from WHO and partners. The verification confirms that the Ethiopian National EMT meets internationally recognised standards for quality, readiness, deployment capacity and emergency medical response. Senegal's classified military EMT is the other classified team in the region.
