A lecturer at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Dr Victoria Ahonya Obera, has identified the mismatch between educational training and labour market requirements as a major factor fuelling youth unemployment in Nigeria. She called for increased investment in human capital development and skills acquisition, saying the country must strengthen vocational and technical education, entrepreneurship and digital skills to equip young people for employment and self-reliance. She made the call in a paper titled 'The Role of Human Capital Development and Skills Acquisition in Promoting Job Creation Among Nigerian Youths' at the monthly general meeting of the Nigeria Institute of Management in Lokoja-Ajaokuta. According to her, despite several government empowerment and skills programmes, many young Nigerians, particularly graduates, continue to struggle to secure meaningful employment.
