The UN and its partners continue to support authorities in scaling up the response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to OCHA. Speaking to reporters at the Palais in Geneva on 15th September 2026, Special Ebola Coordinator Julien Harneis said that he will be traveling to Bunia and areas affected by the epidemic, which he said remains deadly and massive. He noted that while there has been progress in some places, cases continue to increase in other locations. Harneis stressed the need to do more in areas with new transmission of the disease, as well as the urgency of much greater international solidarity through funding and the deployment of specialized medical teams. The Ebola outbreak has now affected seven provinces across the DRC. As of Sunday, health authorities reported more than 7,200 confirmed cases and over 3,500 deaths. However, they note encouraging signs in six health zones, which have now gone more than 42 days without new cases.
