Amazon plans to expand its same-day delivery network to more than 1,000 facilities by 2031, up from about 85 currently, under an initiative codenamed Project Mercury. The expansion aims to place same-day hubs within 10 miles of most Prime customers in the US and could challenge Walmart's physical delivery advantage. The effort is expected to cost billions and may reshape how Americans shop for everyday items.
