Lere Paimo Disputes Pete Edochie’s Seniority Claim In Nollywood Debate

Veteran Yoruba actor Lere Paimo has disputed Pete Edochie's claim to seniority in Nollywood. In a YouTube interview with Kunle Afod, Paimo said he began acting in 1958, four years before Edochie said his career began in 1962. Paimo argued that Yoruba theatre predates English-language productions often associated with Igbo actors. He traced Nollywood's roots to the Yoruba travelling theatre tradition, mentioning Hubert Ogunde as a senior figure.
