Kano State has been ranked first among 209 subnational governments for education spending and second in climate governance in the 2026 African Subnational Survey Report by the University of Paris. The report was presented at an event at City University, Paris, where Kano received two awards. The Director of City University, Prof Julie Peghini, and research partner Dr Hicham Tojari, presented the awards. UNESCO commended the development, with Nigeria's Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Dr Hajjo Sani, urging other states to emulate Kano's commitment to education financing.
