Protests have erupted in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) against a proposed constitutional amendment that could allow President Felix Tshisekedi to seek a third term. Dozens of people were arrested in Kinshasa and several other major cities as police used force to disperse demonstrators. The protests were organized by Coalition Article 64 (C64), an opposition alliance. Tshisekedi, president since 2019, is due to complete his second term in 2028 and is currently ineligible for another term under the constitution.
