The Judiciary of South Sudan, with support from UNMISS and funding from the Royal Norwegian Embassy, has launched expedited trials at the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Court in Juba. The two-week initiative aims to address a backlog of pending criminal cases, including conflict-related sexual violence and SGBV. The court is expected to hear 81 pending criminal cases, including 66 rape cases, with three judges presiding. A survivor-centred approach will be used to safeguard the privacy and well-being of victims.
