The Movement for Credible Elections (MCE), led by Prof Patrick Utomi, has commenced consultations with opposition political parties and presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. The MCE Political Commission, constituted in July, aims to facilitate a single opposition presidential candidate. The commission has concluded arrangements to meet shortlisted presidential candidates and their party leaders behind closed doors, with a tactical session scheduled in Ibadan in a fortnight. According to a statement by MCE Media Coordinator James Ezema, parties shortlisted for consultations include the Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
