Alaibe: Niger Delta Must Break From Six Decades of Extraction

Former Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Managing Director, Chief Ndutimi Alaibe, has said the Niger Delta must urgently move beyond six decades of dependence on raw-material extraction. Speaking as lead speaker at the 2026 Niger Delta Economic and Investment Summit in Port Harcourt, he called for the region to reposition itself as a production, processing, logistics, and trading hub for West and Central Africa. Alaibe noted that persistent poverty and infrastructure deficits, despite decades of oil production, underscore the need for a new development strategy anchored on accountability, economic integration, and indigenous enterprise.
