The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has acknowledged that its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has not been revised in over 30 years and may no longer be effective for selecting candidates. JAMB Registrar Prof. Segun Aina made the admission in Abuja while inaugurating a committee to overhaul the UTME with life skills and critical thinking components. Aina noted that the board has been duplicating efforts by testing candidates on subject matter already covered by WAEC and NECO, and that UTME should instead rank candidates based on skills needed for tertiary education.
