In 2012, the author was working as a publicist in the Country music industry, a career she describes as a dream for many. That same year, her family's home on the Jersey Shore was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, and her father died unexpectedly days later. His death pushed her to leave the music career that was burning her out. She subsequently built a travel-writing career around their shared love of Disney, food, and travel, and dedicated her book to her dad.
