The Ministry of Health (MOH) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening civil registration and vital statistics systems across Liberia, emphasising that legal identity and accurate population data are essential for effective health planning, service delivery, and the protection of citizens' rights. The commitment was made as Liberia joined other African countries in commemorating African Identity Day on September 16, 2026. Representing the Ministry, Dr. Anthony Fortune, Assistant Minister for Vital Statistics, stated that identity is more than a legal document or identification number, serving as a critical foundation for ensuring people are visible to the state and can access essential services, including healthcare. Dr. Fortune stressed that every person should be recognised, protected, and included through reliable legal identity systems.
