The Enugu State Government has stated that there is no confirmed case of diphtheria in the state, urging residents to disregard ongoing rumours. The Commissioner for Health, Prof George Ugwu, made the clarification during a briefing on Wednesday regarding a rumoured suspected case at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku/Ozalla, Enugu. The Public Health and Surveillance unit of the State Ministry of Health is on alert to ensure appropriate prevention and control measures and early detection. The commissioner noted that the suspected case could not be confirmed as diphtheria; the patient had tonsillitis.
