Two senior health officials in Taraba State have provided conflicting accounts of a diphtheria outbreak. The State Epidemiologist and Coordinator of Health Security, Dr Udi Aketemo, said the state recorded 15 confirmed cases with one death, while the Commissioner for Health, Dr Buma Bordiya, said there was only one confirmed case and that the patient was responding to treatment. Dr Aketemo stated that the index case was in Bali Local Government Area, where the patient died, and that 14 suspected cases were identified but all returned negative results.
