Facebook and TikTok have been inaccessible in Equatorial Guinea for over two weeks following the circulation of a video accusing Vice-President Teodoro Nguema Obiang of corruption. An AFP journalist confirmed that access to the platforms has been blocked, with internet speeds restricted since September 2. The platforms can reportedly only be accessed through a VPN, while other Meta-owned platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram remain accessible but affected by restrictions. The video was posted by a young woman who was subsequently arrested.
