The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has warned politicians and their supporters against hate speech, ethnic profiling, incitement, and other conduct that could trigger violence ahead of the 2027 general elections. Executive Secretary Chief Tony Ojukwu gave the warning in a message marking the 2026 International Day of Democracy. He stressed that the credibility of the electoral process depends on respect for human rights, peaceful participation, and accountability, and called for issue-driven campaigns.
