In a column published on 17 March 2021, the author argued that abduction for ransom in Nigeria has become an industry with a business model. Three months ago, he wrote about the late Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd), who was ambushed on the Karaduwa–Matazu Road in Katsina State and held for two weeks before he died in captivity. On the evening of last week Wednesday, the author witnessed a similar horror while driving home from the office. He observed a saloon car with one boy standing through the open roof and another hanging out the left side, with about three other boys cramped inside, driving very fast.
