FG Inaugurates 3MW Solar Hybrid Power Project at Yakubu Gowon Varsity

The federal government has commissioned a 3MW solar hybrid power project at Yakubu Gowon University, formerly the University of Abuja. The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, promised to extend electricity coverage to other parts of the institution within six months. The project was implemented under the Rural Electrification Agency's Energising Education Programme Phase 2, through the Nigeria Electrification Project. It combines a 3.3MW solar array with 3MW AC output capacity and 2 megawatt-hours of battery storage, and is expected to serve 40,000 students and over 3,500 staff, reducing reliance on diesel and easing budgetary pressure.
