WEF Report: Nigeria Lags in Gender Political Empowerment, Ranks 143 out of 145 Countries

Nigeria lags in the gender political empowerment sub-index of the Global Gender Gap Report 2026, ranked 143 out of 145 countries with a score of 0.037, according to the World Economic Forum (WEF). The report released yesterday showed Nigeria ranked above Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu, which ranked 144 and 145 with scores of 0.015 and 0.000 respectively. Iceland, Finland, and Norway took the first, second, and third positions globally with scores of 0.954, 0.728, and 0.704 respectively. WEF said the Global Gender Gap Index has benchmarked progress towards gender parity across four dimensions: economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment, and estimated that global gender parity will be attained in 120 years.
