Petrol prices have surged to a record N1,500 per litre in parts of Nigeria, causing fresh hardship for motorists and commuters. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) warned that the increase is inflicting 'incalculable damage' on Nigerians, with NLC President Ajaero stating there is nothing wrong with subsidising the needs of Nigerians. The price shock spread across Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Delta, and other parts of the country, following an increase in the gantry price by Dangote Petroleum Refinery amid a sharp rise in international crude prices and supply disruption concerns linked to the Middle East conflict. Transport operators have raised fares, and some motorists have abandoned their vehicles.
