The Anambra State government has intensified its dispute with former governor Peter Obi over financial obligations and assets he allegedly left behind when he handed over power in 2014. The government said eight external loans contracted during Obi's administration had an outstanding balance of N127.4 billion as of 30th June, 2026, and challenged his claim that he left over N2.1 billion in an ecological fund account. The claims were contained in a statement by the commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Law Mefor, following Obi's rejection of earlier claims that Anambra was still servicing loans inherited from previous administrations.
