Nigeria’s 38m under-fives face developmental gaps, say stakeholders

Stakeholders in early childhood development have called for urgent and coordinated investment in Nigeria's formative years, warning that failure to nurture the country's youngest population could have far-reaching consequences for human capital development. The call was made at a consultation workshop with civil society organisations and the media, organised as part of the World Bank's Early Childhood Development Inception Mission. The stakeholders included government representatives, development partners, civil society organisations, and academics. They stressed that Nigeria can no longer afford fragmented interventions in healthcare, education, nutrition, social protection, child protection, and responsive caregiving.
