Former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President Chief Ebele Nwokoye has been conferred with the Blue Silks rank, an alternative to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) title for non-litigation lawyers. The NBA has opposed the Blue Silks rank, calling it illegal and warning that lawyers who accept it risk severe sanctions. The introduction of the rank is the subject of a legal battle between the NBA and the Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP). Nwokoye, who served as NBA President from 1985 to 1987, was conferred with the rank on Tuesday at an event in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
