The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced a 38-year-old South African woman, Will Ann, to 25 years in prison for smuggling 5.75kg of heroin into Nigeria. Justice Obiora Egwuatu delivered the judgment, stating that Nigerian law does not consider emotions. Ann was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja while traveling with her three-year-old son on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha. She had pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawfully importing the drug on July 6.
