The European Union is moving forward with plans to implement a total social media ban for children under 13, as announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. During her annual state of the union address in Strasbourg, von der Leyen stated that social media platforms were depriving children of their childhood and insisted that big tech companies must prove their products are safe. The proposed plan includes a draft law that would ban social media for under-13s, while allowing children aged 13 to 15 to use 'mini accounts' with parental supervision and strict app time limits. The official plan is scheduled for publication on Thursday and will require approval from the European Parliament and all 27 EU member states.
