Siaya County in Kenya is undergoing infrastructure transformations in sports and healthcare as part of government development plans. Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru accompanied President Dr. William Ruto, the Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, on a development tour where they inspected two major national government projects supervised by the Ministry of Defence through the KDF, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Health, and the County Government of Siaya. The first project visited was the ongoing upgrade and expansion of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium, which is being transformed from a 5,000-seater stadium into a modern 18,000-capacity sporting complex. The project is currently 47 percent complete and is scheduled for completion by December 2026.
