The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warned that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is not yet under control. The outbreak, which began in Ituri province, has resulted in more than 3,500 deaths from over 7,200 cases across seven northern and eastern provinces. Africa CDC Director General Jean Kaseya acknowledged a plateau and slight decrease in cases but stated that no one can say the outbreak is under control. His remarks followed comments from WHO head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who said there are encouraging signs of gaining ground. On Saturday, DRC government spokesman Patrick Muyaya said the peak was reached in the third week of August.
