The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has suspended its indefinite strike and directed members to resume work. The decision followed a commitment by the university management to pay the outstanding Council component of their Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) for June, July, and August 2026 not later than Friday, September 18. The lecturers had embarked on the industrial action over the payment of half of their August 2026 salary and non-payment of other allowances. A resolution signed by branch chairman Dr. Enaruna Edosa and secretary Lucky O. Aimiyekagbon stated that the university administration provided details of the payment made to members on August 10, 2026.
