The Upper Sharia Court in Kofar Kudu, Kano, has begun hearing a case filed by Islamic groups against Kano-based cleric Lawan Abubakar Triumph over alleged blasphemous remarks. The complainants' counsel filed a direct criminal complaint and urged the court to forward it to the Kano State Commissioner of Police for investigation. The defendant's counsel requested time to study the allegations and challenged the court's jurisdiction. The court declined a request to order the closure of the case.
