Nigeria's gas flaring rate rose to 7.48 per cent in August 2026, the highest in 11 months, according to data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). The increase reverses months of steady improvement and marks the worst monthly performance since October 2025. Despite strong gas utilisation, with 92.5 per cent of the 245,439.13 million standard cubic feet produced being captured, 18,350.55 MMSCF was still flared. The NUPRC data indicates that infrastructure gaps, rather than demand, continue to drive the flaring problem.
