An illegal mining pit collapsed on Thursday afternoon at Mayo-Kam community in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State, feared to have killed or trapped no fewer than 20 persons, including women and children. The disaster occurred while artisanal miners were excavating at the site, causing widespread panic and grief. A resident confirmed the incident, and the Taraba State Police Command spokesperson, Victor Mshelizah, stated that rescue operatives have recovered five dead bodies so far. The actual number of casualties has not yet been fully established, and search and rescue operations are ongoing.
