The Catholic Church in Nigeria has declared December 8 as a national day for prayer and fasting for the successful and peaceful conduct of the 2027 general elections. The declaration was made in a communique issued at the end of the Second Plenary Meeting of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) held in Osun State. The church also encouraged end-of-the-month fasting and prayers and tasked dioceses and parishes to embark on civic education and mobilisation. It charged eligible voters to come out en masse to vote for qualified candidates.
