Metering Initiative Remains Major Focus Of Government As Tariff Adjustment Takes Back Seat- Tegbe

Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe has said the government will continue to implement national metering policies to promote more accurate billing, improve transparency and ensure consumers are charged based on measured consumption. He also said ongoing power sector reforms will provide a buffer for vulnerable Nigerians and dismissed suggestions that the government is contemplating a tariff increase. Tegbe spoke after commissioning a 3MW captive solar hybrid power project at the University of Abuja, now known as Yakubu Gowon University, describing service improvement and universal metering as key priorities of the ministry. The clarification comes amid renewed political interpretation of his comment on possible subsidy removal on electricity and concerns over a possible further tariff adjustment.
