Police Repatriates Chinese Wanted for Smuggling Endangered African Rosewood

The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, has repatriated a Chinese fugitive, Zhang Shijie, to Guangzhou, China. Zhang was arrested in connection with the alleged large-scale smuggling of endangered African rosewood. He was wanted by the Yangpu Sub-Bureau of the Anti-Smuggling Bureau of the Haikou Customs District over an arrest warrant issued on 7 January 2021. The alleged offences involved the smuggling of approximately 1,400 tonnes of Pterocarpus erinaceus, valued at about 15.7 million Chinese yuan, committed between November 2020 and January 2021.
