The Federal Government has established a technical sub-committee to review the 2025 Tax Acts, tasked with identifying implementation ambiguities, unintended consequences, and areas for simplified compliance and improved investment competitiveness. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, inaugurated the sub-committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms in Abuja, stating that the review aims to develop proposals that respond to current economic realities. The sub-committee will examine key areas such as Value Added Tax (VAT) thresholds, Withholding Tax, capital gains treatment, and multiple taxation. Recommendations will form part of the 2027 finance bill. In a related development, civil society organizations protested Nigeria's rising debt profile and demanded an end to excessive borrowing.
