The Continental American Football League of Africa (CAFL) will commence its Nigerian league in Makurdi, Benue State, in March 2027, with plans to establish a talent academy in the state. CAFL Commissioner Muhammad El Muhammad announced this in Makurdi, stating that the league will provide a platform for Nigerians to participate in American football and create opportunities for young talents. The league will begin in cities including Makurdi, Lagos, Ibadan, Ilorin, Abuja, Lafia, Lokoja, Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Enugu, Owerri, Asaba, Warri, Port-Harcourt, and Uyo. The decision to start in Benue was informed by the state's abundance of sporting talents.
