Nigeria's Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, faced criticism after stating that some Nigerians asked him to slow down improvements in electricity supply because their freezers were now working continuously. The comment was made on Wednesday in Abuja during the commissioning of a 3-megawatt solar hybrid power project at Yakubu Gowon University. Tegbe claimed that some areas previously without electricity for up to three months now enjoy up to 18 hours of supply. The remarks triggered backlash from Nigerians who cited persistent power outages across the country.
