FG suspends NSCDC Commandant, orders full probe into death of 33 illegal miners in Niger

The Federal Government has ordered the immediate suspension of the Niger State commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Suberu Siyaka Aniviye. Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo gave the directive and also ordered a full-scale investigation into the deaths of 33 suspected illegal miners who reportedly died while in custody. The suspension and probe are aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
