Nigerian actor Adekanla Desalu and comedian MC Monica have separately reported losing over ₦4 million combined to fraudsters posing as Federal Road Safety Corps officials. MC Monica received a text message about an alleged traffic offence with a link to pay a ₦5,000 fine, but approximately ₦1.85 million was fraudulently withdrawn from his bank account the next morning. Desalu received a similar message claiming he violated speed limits and was instructed to pay a ₦2,500 fine through a link, after which $2,500 was deducted from his account. Desalu, who previously worked in banking, admitted he failed to detect the scam.
