President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will address Nigerians in a nationwide broadcast on October 1, 2026, to mark the country's 66th Independence Anniversary. The Federal Government announced this on Thursday after inaugurating the Inter-Ministerial Committee for the commemoration, chaired by Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume. Akume, represented by Permanent Secretary Mrs Bekearedebo Augusta Warrens, said the anniversary offers an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of Nigeria's founding fathers and heroines. He noted that Nigeria's achievements since independence are built on the foundation laid by nationalists who fought for independence from colonial rule.
