Niger govt cancels APC rally, suspends NSCDC commandant over deaths of detained illegal mining suspects

The Niger State Government has cancelled an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally that was scheduled for Saturday in Minna. The cancellation follows the deaths of about 37 persons who were detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over illegal mining activities. The state government also suspended the NSCDC commandant in connection with the incident. The rally was to be held amid rising tensions over the deaths.
