South Africa: Partnership makes play accessible to children with disabilities

The Lonwabo Special Care Centre for children with disabilities has opened an inclusive, specialised playpark. The project was made possible by a donation from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and supported by the Western Cape Department of Social Development, the Cape Care Fund, PPC, and ShonaQuip. The playpark will serve 33 children with disabilities at the centre in Mfuleni. Sandy, uneven walkways were resurfaced to allow children using wheelchairs and walking aids to move around, enabling them to play alongside their peers for the first time.
