Mining tragedy: Survivor narrates dying moment of inmates arrested after ‘refusing to pay bribe’

At least 37 suspected illegal miners arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) died in custody two days after their arrest. Survivors told Zarar Bunu TV that the deceased gasped for breath and banged on the door, but NSCDC personnel on duty did not respond. One suspect, Dauda Shehu, said they exhausted all means to stay alive, including drinking urine and calling for help, but no one came. The suspects had left Allawa village in search of greener pasture.
